Commercialising sustainability to empower Zanzibar communities
PDS Recycling & Innovation Hub is the small-scale industrial wing of the non-profit Perspective Development Skills (PDS) Charitable Organization.
The PDS Charitable Organization mission
PDS empowers local people living in the rural areas of Zanzibar by providing skills and additional education. Plastic pollution threatens fragile coastal ecosystems, while young people and artisans need sustainable livelihoods.
The Recycling & Innovation Hub turns conservation into an economically self-sustaining model: we transform waste into useful products, and the income from sales funds training, jobs and clean-up work.
Social mission
Youth skills training, fair-wage job creation and inclusive craft workshops.
Environmental impact
Keeping plastic, paper, glass, timber and tyres out of landfill and off the beach.

Waste to skills. Innovation to jobs.
People who join the Hub learn practical, employable trades.
Machine operation
Sorting, shredding and processing plastic and paper raw materials.
Tyre & furniture crafting
Building sofas, benches and garden tools from used tyres with local artisans.
Product design
Developing new moulds and ideas for paving blocks, pens and eco-furniture.
Vocational coaching
Tool safety, product assembly and quality control.
Business & digital literacy
Basic computing, social media marketing and simple bookkeeping.
Clean-up campaigns
Waste collection drives in villages and public areas, and eco-clubs in local schools.
One hub inside a wider community project
Direct impact partnership
Every item purchased on this platform helps scale our small-scale industrial infrastructure and keeps training places open for the next group of young people.
